Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, now the vice-presidential running mate for Kamala Harris, has undergone a dramatic transformation from being a staunch supporter of gun rights to one of the most prominent advocates for gun control in America. Once a darling of the NRA, Walz’s shift on gun issues has been marked by a series of public betrayals against the Second Amendment that have justifiably drawn the ire of gun rights advocates.

During his time as a congressman representing a rural district in Minnesota, Walz was a vocal advocate for gun rights, earning an “A” rating from the NRA and proudly displaying his endorsement from the group. In 2010, Walz expressed pride in his alignment with the NRA, stating he was “proud to stand with the NRA to protect our Second Amendment rights,” as reported by Alison Durkee in Forbes.

However, as Walz set his sights on the Minnesota governorship, his stance on guns began to shift. The change became apparent in 2017 when he appeared at a sports and outdoor show in Minnesota, where he attempted to balance his pro-gun record with a newfound support for so-called “common-sense regulation.” Rob Doar, senior vice president of the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus, noted this shift as a calculated move to find middle ground, according to Beth Reinhard and Isaac Stanley-Becker in The Washington Post.

The Las Vegas mass shooting in October 2017 marked a turning point for Walz. He pledged to donate his previous NRA contributions to a charity supporting families of fallen service members, signaling the beginning of his break from the gun lobby. The Parkland school shooting in February 2018 accelerated his shift, with Walz publicly declaring support for an assault weapons ban and criticizing the NRA as the “biggest single obstacle to passing the most basic measures to prevent gun violence in America,” as reported by Forbes.

This devolution from a pro-gun congressman to a gun-control advocate culminated in 2023, when Walz, as governor, signed a series of stringent gun control measures into law, including universal background checks and “red flag” laws designed to prevent dangerous individuals from owning firearms. His transformation was so complete that Walz proudly declared during his 2023 State of the State address, “I got an A rating from the NRA my first term in Congress. Now I get straight F’s. And I sleep just fine,” a quote highlighted by both Forbes and The Post.

Walz’s evolution on gun rights has been met with fierce criticism from gun rights groups. Randy Kozuch, chairman of the NRA Political Victory Fund, accused Walz of being a “political chameleon,” changing his positions to further his own agenda. The U.S. Concealed Carry Association also condemned Walz for creating “onerous barriers” to gun ownership.

Despite his past as a pro-gun advocate, Walz now stands as a symbol of what many gun rights advocates see as a betrayal of Second Amendment rights and the Democratic Party’s abandonment of rights and ideals that built America. His vice-presidential candidacy alongside Kamala Harris underscores his full alignment with the Democratic Party’s push to undermine the United States Constitution and foster stricter gun control measures—a stark contrast to the man who once proudly wore an “NRA ENDORSED” camo hat at hunting events. He is still known to wear hunting hats and brag that he is a hunter at political events, even as he seeks to destroy access to the very tools most hunters use to pursue that time-honored tradition. He seems oblivious that the Second Amendment was not written so people could hunt, so in making such statements while posing as a sportsman, Tim Walz has become the embodiment of a true Fudd and an enemy to the American sportsman and our country as a whole.

  1. This is one of the reasons I canceled my NRA membership. They were constantly endorsing people based on their “hunting/sport” record rather than the real reason for the second amendment.

  2. “including universal background checks and “red flag” laws designed to prevent dangerous individuals from owning firearms.”

Whoa! Let me correct you on that one with a little more ‘explanation’.

universal background checks to control the law abiding exercise of their constitutional right, and “red flag” laws designed to allow individuals to be accused of being ‘dangerous individuals’ with zero due process and to be exploited at will by the state. He even set up an ‘unofficial snitch line’ type of thing (similar to the ‘snitch line’ he set up during the pandemic so people could report others not wearing masks or not getting the vaccine or anything else pandemic’y they thought was a ‘violation in their own minds’) so anyone could accuse just anyone of being a violent person who should not have guns just by calling a police department to report their unfounded accusations. That’s what communist China and Russia did, have citizens inform on citizens.

    • Last week, on a “White Dudes for Harris” Zoom call, Minnesota governor Tim Walz stated that “one person’s socialism is another person’s neighborliness.”

Socialism can only exist through force and oppression, it might be a matter of degree imposed over time but it gets there. But starting with Biden weaponizing the government against the American people, and actually threatening and using force – Kamala Harris and Tim Walz would try to continue that and even worse, do not think for one minute if Harris and Walz were to actually be elected they would not step up the force and oppression.

There’s not a single example in history where socialism made the lives of the masses better. It is a lie that Harris and Walz are trying to sell with their campaign of ‘joy’, a person has to be mentally ill or a complete moron to fall for it.

      • Might as well get ready for a Harris Walz four year nightmare. That idiot Trump is doing everything he can to sabotage his reelection. He just can’t help himself.

          • I’m voting for President Trump obviously but he is driving me nuts with his personal attacks. There is more than enough for him to talk about with a Harris Walz ticket With the MSM guarding Harris and running her campaign for her Trump needs to be careful. I want Trump for President but his attacks are turning me off. It won’t stop me from voting for him but it may very well stop undecideds.

        • Harris Walz will destroy the economy & bankrupt the USA.
Chapter 13 Liquidation will follow along with complete collapse.

Not necessarily a bad outcome…….Reconstruction may follow.

          • Biden ready bankrupted the country. for the first time in an administration in US history the US can’t afford to pay its debts payments coming up and has printed so much money trying to compensate that the US can’t afford to back its own currency. that’s called ‘insolvency’ when a country does that and a state of bankruptcy exists.

  3. So Tampon Tim is a Quisling yer saying? You what happened to the original Norwegian dontcha???🙄

  4. Tampon sat back and let cities burn, let citizens get assaulted and murdered, turns his back on the police and your 2A Right. To say Tampon Tim is not worth spit is an understatement.

    TRUMP/VANCE 2024.

  5. Hope Trump’s campaign picks it up because i am concerned they are blowing it cause we cant have this socialist and kamala, a pinko, in office

  6. Walz has done so many backflips he could be on the gymnastics team for the next Olympics.

  7. “Universal” background checks are known not to be effective. The entire point of pushing them is to pave the way for permit-to-purchase when the UBC law turns out to be ineffective.

    • Snake_Eyes,

Not JUST “permit-to-purchase”!! UBC is a joke without . . . registration and tracking. It ISN’T about the damn background checks (they are well-proven to be useless, anyway), it’s about having a record of who owns what, which is the ONLY way a UBC regime could work. I have, in general, begum making a practice of quietly and privately transferring firearms to/from my friends and family (and ALWAYS paying cash!!), because? To paraphrase “Command Master Sergeant” Tim Walz, “mind your own damn business!” It’s none of the government’s damn business WHAT I do with my firearms, UNLESS I use them to commit a crime. PERIOD.

  8. The Photo is obviously staged…….that “Spotless” Gear and Dawg harness have never seen a REAL Hunt.

    • I’m surprised the price tags were removed. They probably still had the receipts for the return.

  9. No “devolution” at all.

He was lying when he tried to pass himself off as a regular guy. Some retard or crook at the NRA who decides who to endorse was either stupid enough to believe it, or (more likely) was paid for the endorsement.

It’s what communists and democrats do to get in office.

    • He was the best available at the time, but Leticia thanks you for your service. Bloomberg too…

  10. Amazing, the snowflakes melting here may actually cause significant flash flooding.
Yeah, Tim Walz is terrible, free breakfast and lunch for school kids, raised the minimum wage, budget surplus, what a monster.

But I must say, my hat is off to the Republican presidential campaign, for being so inclusive.

Now that the second photo of JP Mandel in an attractive black dress and blonde wig is out, I think we should recognize the Republican leadership for having the courage to select a DEI candidate.

To nominate an individual who identified as female during college and now is identifying as a male is a revolutionary act by the conservatives, and I think we should give credit where credit is due.

    • First, he didn’t give “free breakfast and lunch for school kids”. The money was obligated from federal funding that was already available for those programs. He just wasn’t using it for that and instead was diverting the money for his other pet projects, and the republicans told him to stop doing that and use the money for what it was intended for or the funds would be removed from state control. So he comes up with prompting a bill for it, and signed it into law, then takes credit for providing ‘free breakfast and lunch for school kids’ so he could maintain control of the funds, some of which still today is siphoned off for his pet projects.

Second, he didn’t raise the minimum wage. He met the demands of the ‘Unionized home care workers’ for votes and support from them. This resulted in a huge 25-48% wage increase for ‘Unionized home care workers’.

This was part of the agreement reached in January 2023 between Governor Walz’s administration and a SEIU Healthcare MN & IA bargaining team of home care workers and clients who negotiated for the contract that covers over 20,000 care workers across the state. The workers ratified the Tentative Agreement in January and the contract had to be passed as part of the budget process to secure Medicaid matching funds from the federal government. In short, the American tax payer is paying for an overall left-wing liberal special interest group to get pay raise.

Third, he did not create a budget surplus with his ‘governorship’. He stopped pet project programs that he had diverted money to from state and federal funds not intended for that because the state was in danger of loosing that federal money, and un-allocating the state money, because it was not going to where it was suppose to go. This resulted in other programs based on those also stopping, and collectively this is where the vast majority of his ‘budget surplus’ came from because ‘almost suddenly’ the state had money was now not allocated. So now his budget for that ‘surplus’ is for the same things the money was originally suppose to go for, or lose the money.

The only one ‘melting’ here Miner49er is you… you are melting in your ‘stew of delusion’ in your zeal to promote a liar and fraud.

Learn what research and context means Miner49er.

      • also associated,.. in relation to this minimum wage thing…

There was also a bill to raise minimum wage for teachers.., wage increases is an annual thing there. It was capped at 2.5% annually, the bill in effect, thorough a separate measure linked it to inflation and capped it at 5%. So in this aspect he also did not increase the minimum wage, but rather linked it to inflation and increased the cap. This was not raising the minimum wage, it was capping it and linking it to inflation. So in effect, the teachers don;t really get anything great because Biden-Nomics is eating it all up.

He also helped out another overall liberal left wing special interest group with a ‘minimum wage’ standard. Not raising it, but rather just setting a standard in the state. After back-and-forth negotiations with Uber and Lyft, Walz signed a bill to establish a minimum wage for Uber and Lyft drivers. This also was not a minimum wage increase, it was a standard set. And sure one could say ‘but they were not making that much before and they are now so its an increase’, well, unicorns are also not a real thing and neither is this because Biden-nomics inflation eats it all up.

Gee whiz, there’s a whole list of ‘special interest’ left wing liberal groups Walz has catered to. Wonder why? OH yeah, votes and support for elections.

    • Jesus, Miner, you are one absolutely feral partisan.
The operative point here is his gun rights stance you bufoon. 99% of political candidates have points that aren’t absolutely all bad. He has clearly demonstrated that his stance isn’t solid on this and any implications that he supports gun rights in the way that people expect him to are opportunistic attempts to trick voters into believing he won’t sell them down the river at any point.
This is like if Trump just randomly became pro-choice. Should people believe that? No. Does that somehow influence his stance on immigration. No.
You always have something to say and are obviously closed off from what objectivity exists in this discussion on this GUN NEWS WEBSITE.
Again, why are you here if all you wanna do is play defense for antigun people and prattle on about Trump 24/7? You really think the comments section, of which 90% of the traffic to this website doesn’t even know exists, is the best soapbox to stand on to scream ignorance into an impossible void?
Find a new hobby or continue to argue with people who either know more than you on the topic at hand or are exactly as hyper partisan as you are in the opposite direction.

    • Oh, Sweet Baby Jeebus on a Nuclear-Powered Pogo Stick!! MajorLiar, SERIOUS inquiry – is it even POSSIBLE for you to post a comment without LYING????? Tampon Tim’s “budget surplus”?? Yeah, exactly HOW MUCH did he raise taxes??? Oh, and by the way, he has a “budget surplus” just EXACTLY the same way Governor Hair-Gel did . . . bogus, lying “government accounting” (what is the EXACT, unfunded, government obligation for the underfunded MN state employee retirement program, MajorLiar??? Calculated using ACTUAL actuarial and investment return numbers? Oh, but you’re too stupid to even UNDERSTAND the question, aren’t you?).

“Mind your own damn business!” . . . and set up a “tip line” so Karens across MN can rat out their friends for the sin of having a dinner party. Or lock down schools without actually asking PARENTS how they felt about it. Or endorse mask mandates (long PROVEN to be ineffective, but that was known to everyone but government aparatchiks, Leftist/fascist morons, and hysterical idiots (Yay! A TRIPLE redundancy!) And signs legislation MANDATING “period products” in BOYS elementary school bathrooms! And legislation allowing MN CPS to take minor children away from their parents if their parents dare to oppose the Leftist/fascist regime of chemical sterilization and surgical mutilation of MINOR children in pursuit of the Leftist/fascist “gender” fantasy. Or bugs out on his ‘brothers-in-arms’ at the last minute, rather than going into danger with them.

Oh, YEAH!!! Tampon Tim is just one HELL of a guy!!! And a perfect partner for Kamal-Toe, Knee-pads Harris, who couldn’t utter a comprehensible English sentence if her life depended on it!!

And I don’t take my direction from ANY party, including the Perpetual Loser Party, but particularly not the Dimocrats, so I don’t really give a crap what their “admission standards” for the “big tent” are. I have my own standards and values, and those are what I use to evaluate the world. What a party shill asserts means less than a fart in a hurricane, to me. Now, do I CARE about someone being “gay” or “transsexual”, in their own life? Child, I was a participant/usher at a gay wedding in frickin’ October of 2005. I even have friends (well, acquaintances) and relatives who “identify” as a gender other than their actual sex. I. DON’T. GIVE. A. FLYING. FORNICATION! Not my circus; not my monkey. But, equally, I have ZERO obligation to “honor” their mental delusions.

Libertarians believe that EVERYONE has the right to go to hell their own way (just not to take anyone along with them). Most conservatives tend to opt in favor of personal choice/liberty, so long as they are not required to exalt it. You wanna be gay, MajorLiar??? Go fly your freak flag high! I. DON’T. CARE. You want me to call you “ma’am” (well, OK, in your case, I might fell impelled to do that)? I have a spot, right between my left butt-cheek and my right, that you can osculate.

ONCE AGAIN, I am going to challenge you – name ONE instance where “progressive”/Marxist/socialist/Communist policies have, on any basis beyond short-term, small community situations, EVER resulted in greater prosperity for their “subjects”. You can’t, because there AREN’T any.

But don’t come in here making stupid, historically-ignorant statements, and NOT expect to get knocked on your @$$ over it. You are a lying liar who lies. WE all know it; YOU know it; WE know that you know it; and you know that WE know that you know it. Eff off, punk; your propaganda is neither original nor interesting. Sell ice to Eskimos; you’ll probably have better luck.

  11. He is the very personification of Elmer Fudd. This idiotic and deceptive conflation of hunting, gun rights and the 2nd Amendment, needs to be fought tooth and nail.
