The Mass Shooting Nobody Will March Against

Almost no white people, no photogenic kids, shooters were gang members, one a convicted murderer…just another Saturday night in Trenton . . .

In the pre-dawn hours yesterday, the nation experienced yet another mass shooting. One dead, 22 injured, including a 13-year-old boy. It took place at the crowded Art All Night Trenton festival in New Jersey. To their limited credit, a couple of cable news outlets mentioned the shooting in their coverage yesterday and this morning. The New York Times wrote a rather lengthy article about it, though it showed up on page A-17. It received similarly “not prominent” coverage in other major papers. The Associated Press took a fairly deep dive on it, but you need to search around a bit on their website to find it. …

What you’re not seeing is a line of politicians waiting to be interviewed on cable news about this. You’re not seeing the Parkland kids calling for a march on the streets of Trenton. In fact, outside of the people who are directly impacted in the immediate area, we’re getting what’s mostly a collective shrug from the national press. Why?

Gun Control Conservation Wildlife Preservation Excise Tax

Gun control is a sure way to hurt conservation efforts

They don’t give a damn. They’d rather have America become another Chernobyl than give up on the cause of civilian disarmament . . .

The notion that firearms sales benefit conservation efforts seems far-fetched to most Americans. How can purchasing firearms and hunting licenses benefit conservation efforts? How can harvesting wildlife in a controlled fashion lead to regeneration of certain species? It seems like a ridiculous notion to most people, given misconceptions about shooting sports and hunting found in society today. If you examine the history of conservation in America, however, observers will discover the large role hunters have played in advancing stewardship, in restoring wildlife species, and in protecting threatened habitats. A key factor bolstering these goals derives from excise taxes imposed on firearms.

Gun control could be detriment to conservation funding, which is made possible by excise taxes paid by hunters and anglers. Excise taxes are paid when consumers make purchases on specific good or activities — particularly on firearms and ammunition in this case. NPR recently documented that a sizeable amount of money apportioned from excise taxes — including those imposed on firearms purchases — goes back to state wildlife agencies.

1 Billion Small Arms Civilians Own 85% Guns

Civilians own 85% of world’s 1bn firearms, survey reveals

And 40% are in the US. If we work really hard, I bet we can get to 50%! . . .

Latest statistics show the proliferation of privately owned guns is on the rise, with wealthy countries outstripping developing and war-torn countries.

In a detailed report, weapons watchdog the Small Arms Survey has researched the numbers of guns across 230 countries.

Examining the ownership of revolvers and self-loading pistols, rifles, carbines, assault rifles and sub- and light machine guns, held by civilian, military and law-enforcement groups, their latest report shows there are now estimated to be more than 1bn firearms in the world – an increase of 17% over the past 10 years.

The majority of the arms, 85% (857m), are estimated to be held by civilians (including individuals, private security firms, non-state armed groups and gangs); while law enforcement agencies own 2% (23m) and military stockpiles account for 13% (133m).

Illinois vs Penister Gun License FOID Arrest

Can Police Arrest Person Carrying Gun Without First Checking If He’s Licensed?

An Illinois court actually said no . . .

The police here operated on an outdated assumption—possession of a firearm in and of itself is a crime. Until recently, that was true in the City of Chicago. But the law has shifted dramatically during this decade. Since the legislature has legalized gun possession and concealed carry, many citizens may now possess firearms provided they have followed the regulations.

Our legislature has made a policy decision that has legal consequences for how law enforcement officers must deal with possession of firearms. No longer can police assume that a person seen with a firearm is involved in criminal activity. Law enforcement officers must adjust their procedures so that law-abiding citizens do not face the undue burden of arrest for licensed activity.

Once Officer Whitlock discovered the gun in the glove compartment, he could have attempted to find out whether Penister or Rockett had a license for the gun. If he found evidence that they had no such license, he would have had probable cause to arrest. But if police can lawfully arrest Penister here, without making any effort to determine whether he had a license for the gun, everyone found with a firearm would be subject to arrest, no questions asked.

Bumble founder threatened after app banned gun photos

This is stupid and helps no one on our side . . .

Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Herdsaid she received threats after her dating and networking app banned images of guns in March following the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting and other incidents.

“It’s polarizing and we had to have police at our office for several weeks,” she told Joanna Coles, chief content officer at Hearst Magazines, during a Cannes Lions panel Monday. “I was getting emails saying, ‘I’m gonna show my Glock and my you know what [genitals]’ with literally a picture of the Glock and the other thing. It was, ‘We’re coming for you, we know where your office is.’ Our team members were getting harassed. It’s been really wild.”

She added: “I guess if you’re pushing the limit on something, you’re going to piss someone off.”

  1. Aptly named “bumble”…while it’s good to hear as an Illinois resident I “might” not get busted for a gat I’m not going to test out that theory. No one(except the shot) give a damn about gang shootings in Trenton. Ditto Chiraq. “It’s THOSE people😩

    • The Bumble woman is a liar. Never trust a Lefty woman who claims she’s getting threats. Making stuff up like that is part of their shtick.

      • My personal favorite is the British MP who claims she got “600 rape threats in one day”… no evidence, front page news.

      • Well, if she was threatened as she says, she should have ways to either trace the sender herself, or to significantly aid the police in tracking him down.

So, I’m sure we’ll hear shortly that someone was found and prosecuted for the threats, especially as they were bad enough for police to be protecting her workplace for some non-trivial length of time.

        Any time now…

  2. I’m glad they didn’t separate any children from their parents at the Art All Night Trenton festival in New Jersey…place would have been swarming with journalists; Even Nancy and Chuckie would have made an appearance and nobody ever wants that.

    • I very much would like Nancy to go wandering around there at 3am. PLEASE. I’ll help purchase the one way ticket.

      • I’ll throw in some if she takes Michael Bloomberg as her escort. More proof that guns aren’t the problem; people are. And Trenton has thousands of these people who have no respect for the law, others or the established rules for civilized behavior.

    • Could be they’re just middle class irish kids with deep tans….

Looks like someone was banging on the glass at the monkey house again.

  3. It wouldn’t be the first time someone faked online threats to try and get some media attention.

  4. The “Civilians own 85% of world’s 1bn firearms, survey reveals” story was in my local paper, packaged a bit differently.

It had a nice quote in it for us :

“Anna Alvazzi del Frate, the institute’s program director, said that “the countries with the highest level of firearm violence — they don’t rank high in terms of ownership per person.”

“So what we see is that there is no direct correlation at the global level between firearm ownership and violence,” she said.”

They admit, more guns do not equal more crime.

My paper’s version of that story :

    http://www.theledger.com/news/20180618/report-over-1-billion-small-arms-in-world-up-from-2007

    • Here’s the last two paragraphs of the gun #’s article from that bastion of journalism, The Guardian:
“Accessing accurate data for small arms is always a difficult task. In the arms trade, small arms are considered the cancer of any society, as they facilitate human rights abuses, criminality, insurrection as well as murder, particularly in developing countries or countries subject to war,” said Martin Drew, British arms trade expert and government consultant.

“These governments need to have the capacity to control the registration and movement of such weapons, as well as implementing legislation with a capacity to enforce it. The also have to contend with the issue of longevity. Revolvers can survive up to 100 years, AK-47 assault rifles 50 years and ammunition 40 years. The figures for the US might appear significantly high, however this may be due to accurate record keeping.”

Oh, PS- In the story they quoted stats from the “investigative paper, Mother Jones.”

      • If Drew Martin (gov consultant) was right I would have to wash my side walk once in while of all the Carnage from gun fights here in America. Gun ownership 35yrs not one shooting.

      • Oh, PS- In the story they quoted stats from the “investigative paper, Mother Jones.”

Mother Jones is a 501(c)3 “charity” fully owned by ‘the Foundation for National Progress” that receives funding directly from gun control advocates. Their writing on the subject is “advertorial.” Meaning they write and publish articles for money. One of the largest funders of the foundation and the magazine is gun ban advocate George Soros who has given several million in the last few years.

In fact t the DCCC (Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee) has given money directly to the Mother Jones “foundation.”

Mother Jones is an organ of the gun control lobby and for that matter of the Democratic party.
its funder list includes 30 gun control lobby funders:

      • What happens to revolvers after 100 years and AKs after 50? Do they disapear or just die and stop working?
What about bolt action rifles? The evil military style ones with bayonet and large capacity 5 round magazine …box. I have one that is 80 years old, do you think it will survive much longer?

    • That article also said, “…numbers of guns across 230 countries.”
The UN says there are 195 sovereign countries, with 6 others that are recognized by at least one member country.
Where did Small Arms Survey come up with 230 countries? One can only assume they counted any group of people who claim autonomy with no one else in the entire world thinking they are actually a country.
But we know the hoplophobes will make up ‘facts.’

  5. Generally speaking, threats aren’t the purview of the right. I’d wager good money that if the threats to bumble were even made, they came from the left.

    • Many high profile threats and intimidating acts are found to be inside jobs. It’s about the buzz and press and resulting sympathy.

  6. Hmmm… It appears that my wife and I are in possession of 0.0000016% of the worlds firearms.

  7. The death of poor black people in a mass shooting never motivates white liberals. They only care about dead white wealthy kids. Even the black parkland school survivors are learning this.

    • Actually, the only murders the left cares about are black skinned victims of systemic white aggressors. Reporting that 51% of all murders in America are the result of 4% (the percentage of black males aged 15-25 in America) of the population is something that will never happen in the MSM, and is considered “hate speech” on social media (and will get you banned, fwiw)

  8. Tee shirts and hats with “Make it 50%” would be a winner. Would invite questions and then a great opportunity to explain why Americans should own 1/2 of the world’s firearms. FREEDOM.

  9. How’s do firearms help the environment?, dead bodies feed the buzzards and coyotes and makes good fertilizer.

  10. Maybe revise your comment about Chernobyl? It has become one of the richest and most flourishing eco systems on eartj now that the communists are not there to jack it up.

  11. Why is this bumble bitch even making news? It’s obvious she made the threats herself.

  12. My wife was pretty shaken up by the shooting at the Trenton Art All Night event. She has friends who attend that show.

I told her gang and drug violence is out of control in Trenton – and this has nothing to do with legal gun ownership. After all, this is NJ – we have some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation.

Once she put down facebook and heard that one of the perps was just released from prison and all were gang members – she realized that I was right.

I think this last event finally cemented in her mind all the things I’ve been telling her about “gun control”. None of it matters one whit to criminals.

  13. Ironically, but cynically even more so, the only politician calling for more gun control after the Trenton gang shooting is New Jersey’s governor, who himself allowed the convicted killer to leave jail very early during his sentence. This democrat social justice warrior is all about coddling killers, literally, in his pursuit of “judicial reform”. I’m not sure if it’s possible, but I’d love to see some of the victim’s families get together and file a class action lawsuit against this governor, who’s actions specifically led to this shooting.

    • We had this same type of coddle the criminal and blame the law abiding citizens crap when Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton were infecting the white house. Liberal insanity.

    • ‘Sovereign immunity’ Officials enjoy immunity for their actions or inaction that don’t involve actual crimes conducted by the official. Which is either good or bad depending on who you voted for.

If you think about it, the persons responsible for lax enforcement of gun and criminal laws, there, are the voters. They voted for this ‘state’ of affairs. They are the ones who asked for this arrangement.

Sadly, you can’t sue an entire state of voters either.

  14. It happened in gun control Nirvana, We all know nothing like that happens in Nirvana! not blood dancers bailiwick because its a low rent neighborhood! Talk about racist Media! Besides the Governors media lacky’s are afraid of the bang gang’ers!

  15. “And 40% are in the US. If we work really hard, I bet we can get to 50%! . . .”

    Challenge accepted.

    *looks in wallet*

    ….nevermind 🙁
