Relax, Parents — The Safest Place for Your Kids Is Still School

A little dose of reality in a sea of media hysteria . . .

Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) clearly show that school-age children die every year in far greater numbers outside of school in a variety of ways.

Take a look at the raw data. According to statistics compiled by The Washington Post, 80 students died in shootings at elementary, middle and high schools from 2000 to 2016. That includes 11 students who committed suicide.

Considering there are more than 50 million schoolchildren, that makes homicide victims in schools vanishingly rare.

Harvard Law Professor Laurence Tribe Warns Dems Pushing Trump Impeachment: ‘You Have to Shoot to Kill’

Remember when Sarah Palin was excoriated for encouraging violence for using targets on an electoral map?

Tribe explained that the impeachment is not about “garden variety crime,” but “abusing the authority that we give to high officials like the president.” The professor went on to give examples of offenses that Trump could commit that would not constitute crimes, but would be impeachable, including failing to protect the country in favor of enriching himself personally.

“But it will be available only if we don’t use it loosely, and ring the bell every time something looks amiss,” Tribe said. “You can’t be the boy who cried wolf and have a viable impeachment power. You can’t use it over and over again against the same president.”

“If you’re going to shoot him, you have to shoot to kill,” Tribe said. “And that requires an overwhelming majority of a bipartisan kind. Otherwise you’re just going to nick the guy, and make him feel empowered and vindicated.”

Seahawks owner donates $1 million to gun-control efforts in Washington

Paul Allen, the Civilian Disarmament Industrial Complex’s 12th man . . .

The latest donation went to support Initiative 1639, which supporters say would create a background check system for semi-automatic rifles similar to the one for handguns, along with requirements for training and safe storage. The measure needs 260,000 signatures on petitions to get it on the ballot in 2018.

He announced the donation on Twitter, and issued a statement of support.

“Initiative 1639 is a reasonable and necessary measure that will improve the safety of our schools and our communities, which is why I have contributed a million dollars to the campaign,” he said. “I hope people throughout the state will support the campaign, so that we can qualify and pass this important initiative into law.”

It’s always the guns and never the mess we’ve created

A rare glimpse of sanity from Chicago. Of all places . . .

Focus on the guns. If we can just keep everyone’s attention on the guns and the homicides, we don’t have to think about all the children whose lives have been destroyed in Chicago by drugs.

All we have to do is get rid of assault weapons. That’s it. And maybe outlaw bump stocks.

Focus on the guns and you don’t have to think about all the children on the streets whose parents are sitting in prison cells, which may actually be better for the kids than living with them.

Of course, some of these parents are only children themselves. They were 14, 15, 16 or 17 years old when they had their babies. High school dropouts. Gang members. Drug addicts.

Jimmy Kimmel Called Out For Pushing CNN’s ‘Bogus’ School Shooting Statistic

Kimmel? No. He’d never. Surely you’re mistaken . . .

“The US has had 57 times as many school shootings as the other major industrialized nations combined,” Kimmel tweeted, citing a CNN report.

The school shooting statistics in America are indeed extremely grim, and the U.S. far surpasses all other industrialized nations. Simply presenting the true numbers is sobering enough. However, as the left-leaning PolitiFact has been repeatedly forced to admit, CNN and other left-wing outlets continue to far inflate the numbers, including incidents that no rational person would describe as “school shootings” in their list.

Meanwhile, here in the real world, while the number of firearms in the US increased by more than 50%, this is the “epidemic” that resulted:

  1. ‘…which supporters say would create a background check system for semi-automatic rifles similar to the one for handguns…’

    Huh?

    • Yeah, that comment makes no sense. I think they are referring to the fact that in Washington if you are buying a rifle, you just need to pass The NICs check and can walk out that day. With a handgun, unless you have a concealed carry permit you have to wait up to 5 days for the local police authority to allow the transfer to go through (at 5 days the store can release even as long as a denial hadn’t been received). In practice in places like King county it will be 5 days because they won’t respond in the affirmative, from my experience.

      • So if a dealer takes the gas tube out of an AR, then its a single shot rifle and the purchaser can walk out the same day?….. and purchase a gas tube on his way out the door? We call that a “California work around”.

“(hh) “Semiautomatic” means a firearm functionally able to fire a single cartridge, eject the empty case, and reload the chamber each time the trigger is pulled and released. Further, certain necessary mechanical parts that will allow a firearm to function in a semiautomatic nature must be present for a weapon to be deemed semiautomatic. A weapon clearly designed to be semiautomatic but lacking a firing pin, bolt carrier, gas tube, or some other crucial part of the firearm is not semiautomatic for purposes of Penal Code sections 30515, 30600, 30605(a), and 30900.”

  2. “The Safest Place for Your Kids Is Still School.” Yeah, sure, if you’re okay with your son being emasculated, your daughter’s brain being turned to mush and both of them being boffed by their teachers.

  3. Gee when I was in HS we had RACE riots 3 out of 4 years. I was fine(I was big) but my brother had his arm broken. No guns in the late 60’s- early 70’s but you get the picture. How about private or home schooling?!? Glad my sons are out of that cesspool…

  4. Allen, Bloomberg, Mr and Mrs Gates, and a host of other wealthy individuals living in secured fortresses with heavily armed 24-7 private security poured over 11 million into the Universal Background Check initiative which has thus far resulted in inconvenience to law abiding Washington State citizens and exactly zip convictions for violating it.

This ban initiative will similarly be supported and pass in Washington where politics are controlled by an ever-more-left-leaning Seattle metro area populated with people not from Washington but flooding in from states and nations where total government firearms control is the norm.

  5. So I’m to beleive every aloha snackbar type in the middle east and africa has lined up and registered their AK to make that 42% stat accurate?

    • I was thinking the same thing. The only way those stats make sense is if the snackbars go to a school, kill everybody, burn down the school, and frighten everybody in the region in to not sending their kids to school, thus shutting down all local schools making school further school shootings impossible…. By her metric its a lot safer because they only had “1 school shooting” ever.

  6. “abusing the authority that we give to high officials like the president.”

If I had a dime for every time the dem talked about impeachment, I’d have a lot of pictures of a President who should have been impeached.

  7. Gawd dam, fuk shit, gawd dam, son a Bich, son a Bich, gawd dam son a bich, FUK…..the Seahawks were my favorites. When’s it going to end? Dicks won’t stop the killings, and no one virtue signalling will. All their going to do is fck up the Constitution, because if it don’t slow down, all this stuff, Trump, NWO, Global Economy, bully me not, BLMLGBTGQNFLBOA,Protards,Gunz,Imigration, Refuge’s,North Korea South Korea, ban the gunz, build a wall,,,,,,,Holeeey Shit. ITS GAME OVER

  8. US murder rate of student age cohort 5-22 is down 60% since 1993.

The vast majority of murders of that cohort are committed by persons with prior arrests.

If Feinstein cared she would advocate for longer sentences for criminals, not shorter sentences that she has supported.

As far as School shootings the numbers she is quoting includes any shooting in a school zone, shootings with paintball and airsoft guns, including thinkg like a bus found with paint ball strike — which NO other country counts as school shootings or counts in any available data at all. Yet she does not count at all the largest school shooting ever, the school shooting in Norway of 69 students and personnel. That doesn’t count because it was a class trip.

    • If Feinstein cared

You take that back, right now!
DiFi does care about criminals. (she’s probably one herself)

It’s the honest productive citizens she has no respect for.

  9. Breaking, youtube just suspended Bloke on the Range for unspecified and assumed imaginary content violations

Bing search until you find something more Conservative, and press your Reps to break up the Google / Amazon / LinkedIn / ebay (etc.) monsters.

  10. Sounds like a LOT of lost POS (D) trying to pull something out of their asses.

“Relax, Parents — The Safest Place for Your Kids Is Still School
A little dose of reality in a sea of media hysteria . . . ”

Sounds like a LOT of people must be saying “Hey, F this school sh_t”. Nice

If Trump even has an assassination ATTEMPT it’ll be open season on POS (D), no tag, no limit, no rest, no quarter, EU / Russia / China / Mexico / Canada stay the F out of it or your next, pick one up and beat the rest to death with it type open season.

    F all of WA.

  11. Factoid. During the during the 55mph era, the Automobile Safety Movement was claiming that there was “carnage on our highways” when, in fact, automobile accidents and deaths had been in steady decline for decades. This didn’t stop the activists from demanding symbolic changes like the 55mph speed limit (which didn’t save gasoline and actually caused traffic accidents because it promoted highway congestion). The similarities between automobile safety activism and gun-control activism are obvious. It took over two decades for congress to repeal a stupid law that didn’t work and was roundly dispised by most Americans.

  12. Sorry for a repost from somewhere else; but it is relevant to a conversation about the real direction of crime and violence trends.

Something I wrote in another thread.
I really see it as being common knowledge that the world is a much safer place. It was the subject in one of the chapters in Freakonomics. There have also been articles in The Economist about this general decline in crime rates. Here is a bit more scholarly look at the issue from the university of Chicago. Pages 172 – 175 deal directly with guns. To summarize it for you, the guns are a total wash, they neither make us safer nor less safe. As such, this “safety” talk has no place, it cannot be objectively supported.

Unfortunately, this also means that crime rates will rise again as there is always regression toward the mean However, I doubt that they will go back to the high numbers we were seeing in the late 70’s and 80’s. And compared to humanities history, even those highs of the 80s’ and 90s’ were a mere ripple in an ongoing decline in violence that we have been seeing for centuries.
