Be sure to thank an Indian tomorrow . . . The American Indian foundation of American gun culture

It is widely agreed that the United States has an exceptional gun culture. Although Great Britain is America’s “mother country,” the two nations have very different arms cultures. Why so? Historically, two reasons were especially important in the early colonial period:

1. The practical differences between conditions in America and in Great Britain.
2. The influence of American Indians.

What today is called “American gun culture” is founded on American Indian arms culture. The convergence of Europeans and American Indians produced a new, hybrid arms culture. Although that culture has changed over the centuries, we can still find in 21st century arms culture the influence of the Anglo-Indian convergence along the 17th century Atlantic seaboard.

Hey, New Yorkers, time to see if the state will allow you to keep your handguns.

Life in a state where you need permission to own firearms . . . SAFE Act: Deadline approaches to re-up pistol permits

Those with New York pistol permits dating back prior to 2013 will soon have re-certify or face having their license automatically revoked.

State Police on Monday warned pistol-permit holders of the quickly approaching Jan. 31 deadline to re-up their license with the state, which is required as part of the SAFE Act, the state’s 2013 gun-control measure.

State law requires permit holders outside Westchester, New York City and Long Island to file with the state every five years.

Those who were issued a pistol or revolver permit before Jan. 15, 2013 — the day the SAFE Act became law — will have to complete the recertification process by Jan. 31, 2018, according to state law.

Prescott Valley is asking for the public’s help to find a missing handgun that belongs to the Chief of Police, and is now offering a reward for its safe return.

The Prescott Valley Police Department said on November 9, after attending a town council meeting, Chief of Police Bryan Jarrell entered the restroom at the Prescott Valley Library to change his clothes.

According to police, Jarrell accidentally left his gun in a restroom stall.

Same as it ever was . . . Gun control: The assault on Congress by the medical journals

In the wake of the heinous Las Vegas shooting, the medical politicians of the American Medical Association and the public health establishment — which is to the left side of politicson just about any topic even remotely related to medicine — have rallied to the cause of gun control political propaganda, rather than science. Toward the cause, they have resumed drumming up arguments that have been thoroughly refuted in the past. And this is true for the most prestigious medical journals, The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) and the British Lancet.

Incidentally, this repetition of hackneyed and refuted data, I suppose given the prestige of the journals, is not due to ignorant negligence but to deliberate academic hubris because they consider themselves above the academic standards they tout but do not practice, such as the importance of the exchange of ideas so essential to intellectual freedom. But in truth, there is no such academic freedom but a monolithic establishment, and articles that have had the temerity of describing the beneficial aspects of guns are not published; their authors marginalized, ostracized and censored.

OMG! Raffling off a rifle! A scary black one! OMG! . . . AR-15 raffled off by youth football league in North Carolina

A raffle to give away an AR-15 was streamed live on Facebook with the Optimist pee wee football team from Stanley, North Carolina.

The money was to help the team go on a trip and players were encouraged to thank those who bought a ticket to possibly win the AR-15.

Willard Whitted is a gun owner, but he said this was a bad idea.

“Thought it was terrible that they would even think of doing something like that,” Whitted said.

He said scores of people are killed when a gun of that type gets into the wrong hands.

  1. How do you thank a Native American? Give them back their buffalo, their land, their true pride. Uhhh duh, Thank-you Chief and all your people, I got gunz, you got whiskey.

    • Give them back their land? Their Buffalo? Their true Pride?

Maybe give back their raiding, raping, pillaging, slave trading and torturing of captives as well.

The culture of many of the American Indians before Europeans arrived was called a Retributive culture. Think of the America’s controlled by the modern equivalent of MS-13, the Mexican Mafia, the Hells Angels, the Bandidos, the Crips and the Bloods. The native American tribes, just as the modern criminal organizations, depended on savage reprisal if they’re attacked by a rival tribe, as a form of deterrence. Which is why most of the names of a particular tribe for other rival tribes translate as “enemy”.

Yeah, get all misty-eyed at the loss of the “true” American indian culture, not!

    • Their land? Okay. Let’s take the Black Hills. Who do those belong to? The Sioux? No, they took the hills from another tribe. And that tribe took it from another, etc.

You realize that the different tribes waged war against each other for the same motivations as Europeans, Asians, Africans, etc?

Land changed owners. They also enslaved each other, raped each other, even went for genocide, and some even did human sacrifices.

Yeah! Awesome! Completely on par with the cultures of European settlers. Oh wait, no, not even remotely. They are inferior. Fact.

So to go back to the land. Who shall the Black Hills be given back to?

      Yeah. Your “idea” is stupid.

      As for the rest?

Buffalo? Brilliant idea. Not. Go back to nomadic life, it’s so great. Not.

Pride? First of, since when is pride a great thing? Secondly, it’s not really something to move around and hand out. Plus, what do they have to be proud of? They were savages, mutilating, enslaving, raping and sacrificing each other.

      • The Indians did not even have the WHEEL or the horse. They used dogs to haul their crap around. They were literally living in the Stone Age.

        • No one caught the ” their land, their buffalo( American bison), it’s Mother Earth’s land. I think I know the history of the Native American Indian, just maybe a little. The Indian were the greatest stewards of that land, and this land sucks now( when’s the last time you drank tap water?) “Were” ,the greatest stewards,Norsemen first, Spanish, Europeans discovered paradise and ruined it. Now is not then, and progress could not be stopped . However If I could bring back the “blood thirsty, savages, rapers, and murders, set the date 400 years ago and never change. I would gladly sacrifice my life. It ain’t misty eyed kitten, Im an animist, and I love the earth. $

      • The Europeans didn’t torture people, enslave them, practice human sacrifice? Gee whiz, I guess cooking somebody in a brass bull while you eat was fun for the people being cooked. I guess putting a devils pear up your ass was just a kink thing? More, when do I need to stop? Have you ever thought that this human species, is the only speices on earth to derive pleasure from hurting things?

  2. Maybe instead of offering a $500 reward for help finding the chief’s Glock 19, perhaps they should just take that $500 and help out the local economy? Hmmm?

    • Naturally, they could just buy him a replacement for less… but I figure theres a Stupidity Tax to be paid for his goof up… and they really dont want that gun reappearing at a crime scene, so…
      🤠

      • If it’s in the hands of a criminal it’s long gone and no $500 reward is going to get it back. I was just thinking there’s a little local company right there in Prescott that could help him out called Sturm,Ruger & Co. Maybe they could make a special Police Chief model with a lanyard.

        • A special model where the magazine is kept in the shirt pocket, requiring each round to be loaded manually in the chamber. And on a special license from Taurus, a keyed striker lock. The Don Knotts Signature Edition.

    • I’d say the chief owes the city $500 for the city property he failed to exercise due care of.

What’s the world coming to? If you can’t depend on a Four Star General, who can you depend on?

Lucky for him he’s in Arizona.
If he was in a ‘safe storage’ state, I’d be launching an internet drive to have him prosecuted for improper storage of a dangerous weapon.

  3. Wow, I hope there aren’t any 1st nation members reading this other than myself, that’s some sad editorial…………..

    • The ‘Redskins’ were named that as a tribute to the people. As were the ‘Indians’, ‘Braves’, ‘Blackhawks’ and every other American Indian name in American sports. Redskins and Indians, were named after players, in the Redskins’ case 4 players and a coach. It’s only recently in our SJW culture that anyone (including aboriginal peoples) all of a sudden decided to take offense at these tributes.

      • I don’t disagree, I was more trying to make the point that the liberal media is somewhat ok with the term “Redskin”, (especially now, as it seems the NFL is increasingly sliding to the left) as opposed to a racial slur against another race, such as a team called “the Niglets.” If such a team name existed it would be all out War on the NFL, but because their just Indians it’s not that big of a deal.

      • I was under the impression that the liberal media wasn’t exactly cool with the ‘Redskins’. More of a matter of the ownership thumbing their noses at the SJWs by refusing to waste an ungodly amount of money changing the name.

        But since we’re on the subject, I’ve thought of a few SJW approved NFL names;

        Denver Geldings
        LA Ewes
        Seattle Peafowl
        Oakland Victims
        Dallas Shepherds
        New Orleans Secular Humanists
        Pittsburgh Philanthropists
        Miami Dolphins

      • I don’t think the progs are OK with Redskins.
Even 25 years ago there was a First Nation and Progressive alliance agitating to get rid of the University of Illinios’ Illini team name.

I couldn’t even understand what the fuss was about until I saw a quote from an Illini who said “I’m a person not a mascot”. But I still didn’t see why that was any worse than, for instance, the Vikings.

    • You are the ones who always bring up the false narrative of how peachy things were before the Europeans arrived.

  4. Deactivated machine guns? You mean lumps of useless steel? Non machine guns? Machine guns that are singing in the heavenly choir? Did they nail their tripod and bipod feet to the table to keep them from falling off?

In england a non gun is news? “Tommy turned in a broom to the police and got his picture in the paper”.

Oh, yeah. “It’s me non Bren gun.”

    • Correct me if I’m wrong but I was under the impression collecting deactivated firearms was completely legal in the UK. But after the deactivation process they really are gun shaped pieces of metal. The chambers are drilled or cut. Tbe barrels are cut and/or filled. Operating parts welded in place. Vandalism of historic artifacts.

    • At least these started out as guns. The Australian police were all atwitter over a “machine gun” that was actually a camera shaped like a Lewis Gun used for training air gunners.
It says a lot about the UK that even inert lumps of metal shaped like guns cause palpitations, and yet shootings are up in England so the bad guys are still armed.

  5. Had my NYS permit for over 30 years never had to re cert , till the safe act passed.
It can be done online , but what many are doing is waiting till near the deadline and mailing it , certified mail. Hoping to dump a hundred thousand or so on their desk, for them to do by hand .

Also it seems many are still unaware of that they now have to re cert. Should be interesting .

    • Does it say something on the face of the license about never expiring?

And how can you have a license to exercise a basic civil right, like possess a handgun in the privacy of your own home? That goes for Illinois and their FOID too.

Registration is one thing (Hi, Michigan), but demanding that gun owners buy and renew ‘Civil Rights Licenses’ is really going too far.

  6. Surprisingly, in terms of being the overflowing fountain of shaking my head, white (and all others) trash news, Uber is the new Walmart. To absolutely no one’s surprise, Florida is still the same Florida.

  7. “Jarrell told ABC15 that he accepts all responsibility and any repercussions that may come his way.”

If Chief Jarrell’s gat is used in a crime he may just get those “repercussions”.

    • Does that mean the $500 reward and cost of a new gun are coming out of his pocket instead of taxpayer funds?

I suspect the answer is “no”.

  8. I’m not quite sure if my English cousins have figured out firearms yet, Officers were also given 31 shotguns, 11 pistols, 10 handguns, nine revolvers and six rifles! 11 pistols so far so good, nine revolvers good, 10 handguns !?!?!?!?!?!? apparently 10 of something that is neither a pistol or revolver, derringers?? Home made?? Dueling pistols?? Inquiring minds want to know.

  9. Thank the Indians huh? Gee I got a bit of Canadian injun on my dad’s side. Something like 1/64th…thank me😆😆😆…and send $$$!

  10. It’s nice to know how my ancestors from both sides of the Atlantic participated in developing a new kind of society.

Though I fear that anti-gunners will just take this and use it to call gun owners savages.

  11. I have yet to be told a coherent reason or even excuse for ‘re-certifying’ pistol permits other than as one more bullet point that Albany politicians can use to say they’re tough on guns.

Are they afraid that deceased people are going to be carrying? Maybe White Walkers don’t know how to use a computer?
