US Army Begins Issuing Safariland M17 Holster System

Back in December of last year, we reported that a version of the Safariland 7TS holster had been selected to serve as the Army’s new issued M17 holster. Photos of an issued unit have surfaced in the Facebook group Primary & Secondary that not only show the manual, labeling it as the “Army Modular Handgun Kit,” but also a good look at all the components that a soldier can expect to receive.

It appears that the kit will include several QLS Adaptors that allow the soldier to quickly reconfigure their holster setup without tools. Also in the holster kit is a low ride Safariland UBL with a QLS mount attached, what appears to be a belt mounted QLS mount, and a QLS mount on a drop leg with a thigh strap.

The kit obviously will include a version of Safariland’s 7TS holster in either tan or black based on information in the post.

An additional holster may be procured later to accommodate a light or light/laser unit. A holster that’s compatible with the Leupold DeltaPoint Pro may also be necessary as the M17 and M18 are further kitted out.

The contract awarded to Atlantic Diving Supply is a $49 million firm-fixed-price contract for the M17 and M18 handgun holsters.

  1. Never used better. Never seen better.

Even over shoulder-holsters. And that’s saying something.

  2. I liked my old M9 and Holsters i used.. where can i find the surplus stores that sell them? Id like a great long served military arm like the M9 over this expensive thing .. but this Holster system chosen is a decent design and good system, will be pricy replacing all older systems and at least they are trying.

  3. Even though I really like my Sig M17, I still love my Beretta M9. Of course the issue M9’s are worn out.
