Virginia’s U.S. senators want to export the gun rationing law that’s been instituted in the Old Dominion to the rest of the nation.
Gun control politicians swept to majorities in Virginia in 2019 and passed gun control immediately. Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam signed several bills, including a “one handgun per month” rationing of the Second Amendment on law-abiding Virginians.
Virginia’s senators aren’t satisfied with limiting gun rights in their own state. They want to do it in every other state too.
Rationing Rights
Virginia Democratic Sens. Tim Kaine and Mark Warner are more focused on enabling special interest gun control than listening to their constituents. There’s no other logical explanation for their latest gun control scheme to ration the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans.
Nearly every county and several cities passed Second Amendment sanctuary resolutions during the commonwealth’s gun control takeover. Virginians purchased firearms in record numbers last year, just like the rest of the nation. There were 823,513 background checks for the sale of a gun in Virginia in 2020, up from 512, 766 in 2019. So far, Virginia’s tallied 198,111 background checks for gun sales in 2021.
Sens. Kaine and Warner can’t be bothered with facts and figures. That’s why they reintroduced their “Virginia Plan” for national-level gun control that includes limiting Americans who pass an FBI National Instant Criminal Background System (NICS) check from purchasing more than one handgun in a 30-day period.
“Mark and I have the feeling that if we can do it in Virginia, we can do it in Congress,” Sen. Kaine said announcing the legislation.
The plan is endorsed by Virginia’s Attorney General Mark Herring, the same attorney general who was embroiled in his own blackface scandal after Gov. Northam admitted, then denied his own scandal. AG Herring said Virginia’s gun rights rationing “…Proved to be extremely successful in keeping a large number of firearms off our streets.”
He must have missed the memo that criminals don’t buy their guns at retail. They obtain them through the black market.
One-handgun-per-month proposals only limit the ability of law-abiding citizens from exercising their Second Amendment right to protect themselves. While those who follow the law are restricted and limited, criminals will continue to steal and buy guns on the black market as they have always done. The policy doesn’t do anything to solve a very real problem.
Shifting Landscape
Sens. Warner and Kaine have long been listening to gun control groups like Everytown for Gun Safety and Giffords, rather than their constituents. If they had, they would recognize Americans have voted for the Second Amendment with their wallets overwhelmingly during the past year and rejected the rationing of their rights.
Sens. Warner and Kaine reintroduced their legislation this year because the duo tried once before to pass the rights-rationing bill in the previous Congress. It failed to gain traction then and will likely go nowhere this time. President Joe Biden is now in the White House, but the U.S. Senate is deadlocked 50-50 and gun control proposals aren’t gaining traction. On top of the political realities in Washington, D.C., Americans’ support for stricter gun control is at the lowest level in several years.
President Biden announced executive actions for gun control but his administration may have recognized the changing political calculus of Second Amendment supporters and those casting votes at the ballot box.
As the pace of firearm sales has continued at blistering levels in 2021 so far, it’s even more evident that law-abiding Americans have little appetite for legislation that rations their rights and ability to provide for their self-defense. They recognize the ruse of the “Virginia Plan” federal bill offered by Sens. Warner and Kaine as a scheme to only ration their Second Amendment rights while doing nothing to solve the real problem of criminal violence and criminals illegally obtaining firearms.

Bad guys only have two hands, most only use a single gun in a crime, but even in cases where they had 2 or 3 guns on them, that only takes 3 months, any future Vegas style shooter has time to wait anyway.
This just means you need three months to become a 3 gun competitor.
Mostly it means stores can’t sell as much to their repeat customers, and collectors or those who might splurge on a sale can’t buy as much at a time. I wonder if Virginia stores have long layaway plans now… Build up a queue of guns for your gun of the month.
In my area(NW Indiana & NW ILL)most so-called layaway is 30 daze. My favorite pawn has 90 days & only one actual LGS has 90 daze. Some have no layaway now(“we would have no guns if we had layaway). I’m getting a gun next week on halfazzed 30 day layaway. There are individual towns in ILLinlois with 1 gun/month. Like Riverdale- home of the “infamois” Chucks Gunshop. There’s always a workaround…

I’m sorry but it looks like a lot of the people from Illinois get theirs illegally off the street. Use must have a liberal governor. Libs seem to prefer illegal including the aliens who cross the border to come to our country.
California has had one hand gun a month for years. and they have recently extended that to long arms. The crime rate is still rising. Such rationing schemes may only reduce the number of NEW guns in the street, but they have no effect on the ones already out there or the number of people willing to use them for unlawful purposes, or the single gun purchases by people fearful of the effects of “defund the police” who are buying their first firearms in record numbers.

Lets limit crappy representatives to 10 words a week, who needs more than 10. Or term limits to 10 weeks, if you cant get it done in 10, 30 wont help .

While many people might think 1 purchase every thirty days is fine, it is not. First they start with this, then 1 purchase every six months, then once a year and then move to you can only have 1 period, and then no more. I am so glad I decided not to retire in Virginia after my career in the army. I love the history there. I loved the Civil War reenactors. All the various festivals that they had there. And the weather was great!

Chris: From a lifetime southern Virginian, Kentucky sounds really nice. Most of our representatives are carpetbaggers. Everything from Lynchburg to the northern tip of the Commonwealth has been lost. The cancer keeps creeping southward in the Old Dominion.
Nobody needs to smoke more then one pack of cigarettes a day. Nobody needs to buy a new car every 5 years. Nobody needs to consume more then one once of liquor an hour.
Those things kill more people then gunms.
How about applying to purchase a car through your local “people’s committees” with proof of income, approved storage, evidence of your involvement in approved recreational activities, party membership, references from employer and party officials, and a healthy bribe to the official who evaluates your request. And if you’re lucky you might be able to collect your car in 5-10 years.

Traditionally there is confusion between Virginia and West Virginia assuming West Virginia is only western Virginia, but western Virginia is another place and this confusion might be ending.
While these “Senators” were proposing yet another stupid infringement Jim Justice, Governor of West Virginia signed into law House Bill 2694, whereby state and local government officials will be under order to NOT enforce (or assist in federal enforcement of) ANY federal bans or regulation on firearms, magazines, ammunition, or firearm accessories.
Virginia counties are still welcome to switch states as Article VI, Section 11 of The Constitution of the State of West Virginia explicitly permits additional territory to be admitted into, and become part of this state, with the consent of the Legislature and of a majority of the qualified voters of the state. … And most West Virginians would welcome more Virginia counties under these circumstances.

These two VA Senators have mush for brains and are unable to understand the meaning of the 2nd Amendment and the Court decisions supporting it. They must have been apart of the group which failed reading comprehension, contrast and comparison, and critical thinking skills when in school. They are out of touch with reality and the truth about who and what needs to be accomplished inorder to keep weapons out of the hands of those who should not have them or have access to them; their proposal has the same effect as hitting a small nail with a sledge hammer when a craft hammer would do the job.
