ZEISS Launches Smart Phone Ballistic Calculator App

Carl Zeiss Sports Optics apparently knows that I can’t balance a checkbook, never mind calculate all the variables that determine where my bullet will land when using a firearm equipped with one of their most excellent scopes. And while their web-based ballistic calculator was the business, it wasn’t exactly smart phone-friendly. So Carl’s mob have released its new ZEISS Ballistic Calculator mobile app for iPhone, iPod, iPad and Android devises (that’s German for devices). Aside from the lack of a ASV ballistic knob system – whatever that is and coming soon – the app does all the math for you. Five bucks buys you the download at iTunes or Google play. Zeiss customers can click here for a free version. Why, it’s almost enough to make you want to buy their glass over someone else’s! Isn’t it? Press release after the jump . . .

North Chesterfield, VA -(Ammoland.com)- Carl Zeiss Sports Optics, the world’s leading manufacturer of high performance sports optics is pleased to announce the launch of its new Ballistic Calculator mobile app available for the iPhone, iPod, iPad and Android devises.

Based on the hugly successful website based program the mobile app is a completely interactive tool you can take to the range or into the field.

“In the sprit of forward thinking we wanted those who use our priporitary ballistic reticles to have a ballistic tool that could be used virually anyway you have a signal for your devise,” stated Mike Jensen, President of Carl Zeiss Sports Optics. “We are constantly striving to provide truly innovative technology that will compliment every skill set for our passionate customers.”

The ZEISS ballistic calculator virtually eliminates the guesswork for hunters and sport shooting enthusiasts alike. The user-friendly, intuitive ZEISS Ballistic Calculator was developed by a team of the most experienced ballistics engineers and promises to help hunters and shooters of all levels to master the long range shot.

The ZEISS Ballistic Calculator allows users to pick their exact ZEISS Riflescope with ballistic reticle from a drop-down menu. The user also has the ability to select factory or hand load data as well as environmental variables, and then the system will calculate and display the optimum magnification setting.

The result is that distant yardages now coincide with the ZEISS ballistic reticle subtensions. The system allows the user to adjust standard settings for altitude, temperature, and incline angle as well as advanced settings for muzzle velocity, sight height above bore and sight-in distance.

Key Features:

  • One page screen application for fast data entry and easy to read results
  • Comprehensive and current database for factory and hand loaded ammunition
  • Adjustable settings to customize unique shooting environments
  • New slide feature to visualize how change in magnification settings affect point of impact

The addition of our ASV ballistic knob system will be available shortly.

The mobile ballistic app can be downloaded at Google Play (Android App) | iTunes(iPhone App) for a retail cost of $4.99. To access the free web version, visit Zeiss.

  1. Only four misspellings in the third paragraph, all in the quote from the president:

    DEVICE
    SPIRIT
    PROPRIETARY
    VIRTUALLY

I hope the app is better than their presser.

  2. I found a pretty good free one, but it only goes out to a thousand yards.
Looks like their “free” version only works if you sign up. Bummer.

  3. Try Strelock the same price but it has almost every reticle ever made it will do multiple calibers multiple scopes figure wind drift drop an angle correction

    • This. If the potential users of this app think that they’re going to get any “real” accuracy with factory ammo, they are in for a disappointment. Unless you hand load, the app will only get you so close.

  4. Spelling is a concern not so much for itself, but that it could indicate carelessness elsewhere.

I just hope they didn’t leave the back door open for the NSA.
